Silk weaving, 19th century
A man operating a silk loom in Ghatal in Medinipur - 1873. In ancient times, when Tamralipti was a thriving seaport, nearby Ghatal was famous for its cotton and silk weaving and other crafts. But these industries were systematically wiped away by the East India Company`s policies.
