Lalit Mohan Barman aka Lalit Kushani of Dinhata in the Cooch Behar district of West Bengal was a renowned Kushan performer and Bena player. By the time he was 20, though still a student of the famed master Jhampura Kushani, he had already begun to receive recognition for his performances. Lalit went on to become a much sought after guru himself.  

Like all Kushanis of the past, Lalit made his own Bena. He also wrote several books and was the recipient of numerous awards including the state`s Lalon Purashkar in 2001, which he received shortly before his death in 2002 at the age of 72 .
