Mihirlal Singhdeo, Jhumur

Mihirlal Singh Deo was born in a Zamindar family of Rajanwagarh village under Kenda police station in Purulia district. Although he was  trained in classical music, Mihirlal`s soul craved for Jhumur. His uncle Hariprasad Lal Singh Deo was a noted singer. He did his Bachelors in Music and Masters from Chandigarh University with distinction. 

Mihirlal Singh Deo gained prominence as a Darbari Jhumur artist and performed regularly at various soirees. The late sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar had lauded his songs. Apart from singing, Mihirlal Singh Deo was also a composer of Jhumur songs and received the Lalon Purashkar from the Government of West Bengal for his contribution to the Jhumur tradition.  

Mihirlal passed away on  January 18, 2018 at the age of 77.
