A two day workshop on Lac Doll making was organized on June 2 & 3, 2018 for the students of All Bengal Women`s Union Children`s Home at the invitation of Intach, Kolkata.
Lac dolls or Galar Putul is an endangered craft and there is only a single master artist, Brindaban Chanda who has managed to uphold this craft, with great difficulty. From about 40 families who lived off this craft about 15-20 years ago, the future of this beautiful craft today rests on 60 year old Brindaban`s tired shoulders. Marketing this craft more widely and enhancing awareness and interest around it is of prime importance.
The enthusiastic group of young students were taught how to make hand pressed clay dolls and how to use shellac to paint them with bright colours.
