April 22,  Earth Day, is celebrated worldwide to demonstrate environmental protection. We were honoured to be invited by INTACH - Kolkata Chapter and Indian Museum to participate in the activities organised for this day at the museum. For this special day, we had Santal artists Chhobi Besra and Sumoti Murmu conducting an all day workshop on crafting ornaments from palm leaves and natural fibre, which the girls had collected from fields near their home. A lot of excitement was generated and the 30 odd participants including school children, teachers and even random visitors were quickly immersed in this wondrous craft. By the end of the day, they were seen proudly sporting their little works of art!
